Germany: Meeting and Conference Leader in Europe

E.g. Leipzig was a fair before it was a city; trade routes running east-west and north-south across Europe crossed there and the commerce that flourished at the intersection provided the impetus for the city's growth. Frankfurt's Messe is the world's third largest, Cologne number five. That established tradition, coupled with the nation's export prowess, has helped Germany to a leading position internationally.

Germany is second only to the USA as leading global destination for meetings and events.
The latest International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) Meetings Market statistics have placed USA as the leading global destination for meetings and events. Germany came in second, with the country well ahead of the rest of Europe for the sixth year running.

Hosting 458 international association meetings last year, Germany was the clear leader in Europe, far outpacing Spain (360 conventions), Italy (350 conventions), the UK (345 conventions) and France (341 conventions). The USA, however, maintained its dominant position with 595 meetings.

In the worldwide city rankings, Germany, France and Spain also performed well. Berlin moved up to fourth place with 129 international association meetings, just behind Paris (131 conventions) as number three, Barcelona (135 conventions) in second place and Vienna (160 conventions) at the top.
